Very nifty.

Tuxera NTFS for Mac wins the Epsilon Award

Last weekend we have been attending the European Software Conference in Venice where our commercial application, Tuxera NTFS for Mac won the Epsilon Award for software excellence. Voting was open until the end of October and anyone familiar with the product could put in their vote. Thank you for all the votes, we were quite in the lead compared to the other nominees. As most of you know, we released an upgrade recently making the software fully compatible with the latest OS X Mavericks. If you have not updated it already, do it now. It is free for all our registered customers.

This time at ESWC we were showcasing Streambels and discussing Tuxera's path from open source to commercial success. In the introduction we mentioned the always buzzing Finnish start-up scene and Wired UK ranking Helsinki the hottest start-up capital in Europe. In fact, Tuxera is moving the headquarters next week to mentioned in the article Itämerenkatu, previously Nokia space and now the house of very much talked about young companies, Supercell and Jolla.

Mentioned above Streambels - our AirPlay & DLNA media streaming app for Android is almost ready for the public release and we will be showing it off at the Slush next week. If you happen to be there, do not miss the Tuxera booth. To learn more about the app, feel free to visit Streambels website.

Anyone who bought an Apple computer since 2007 can download it for free from the App Store. Before updating make sure that you have everything in place. Tuxera NTFS for Mac – Everything You Wanted to Know and More

As most of you know, Mac OS X provides limited support for Microsoft Windows NTFS formatted volumes. Out of the box, the files will be in read-only mode so you won’t be able to copy, edit or delete them. However, a lot of us use many different devices at work and at home. It can quickly become very annoying to handle huge amount of digital data that is produced every day. According to a recent survey made by Deloitte, there was a 150% increase in the so-called digital omnivores, people who own at least 3 portable devices (a smart-phone, tablet and a laptop).

Tuxera focuses on development of file system solutions that help to overcome these obstacles. Our Tuxera NTFS for Mac software is widely used by Mac users to transfer, access, edit and store media content from a variety of devices. It is crucial for us to have all updates in place so the solution is fully compatible with the newest Mac OS X versions released by Apple.

Just last week we published our Tuxera NTFS for Mac 2012.3.6 in response to a new Mac OS X 10.8.3 update. The new package includes 2 new exotic languages, Polish and Brazilian Portuguese. Our customers come from around the globe and to cater to all of them we also added multiple currencies to our online store.

Tuxera NTFS for Mac fully supports Mountain Lion

Tuxera NTFS for Mac 2012 adds several new features and the latest installation package we released right after Mountain Lion has been signed with Gatekeeper, which makes sure you have the right, untampered software from Tuxera. As always, we are eager to hear your feedback and suggestions for new features and other improvements!

Release: Tuxera NTFS for Mac 2011.4

We are now announcing the release of Tuxera NTFS for Mac 2011.4.

The new release contains numerous enhancements. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Automatic translation of filenames that would be invalid in Windows into a compatible form, leading to less problems when copying files to NTFS volumes (can be turned off in preferences).
  • Improved responsiveness when using multiple simultaneous NTFS volumes on 64-bit kernels.
  • The ability to turn off native storage of extended attributes, introduced in version 2010.7 (to improve compatibility with NTFS-3G and older versions of Mac OS X's internal NTFS driver).
  • Bugfix for formatting hard disks with 4 KiB sector size. The previous version produced NTFS volumes that could not be used successfully in Windows.
  • Bugfixes/tuning of native extended attribute handling. Some applications (e.g. Adobe Photoshop) could misbehave with the previous stable version.
  • Bugfix for saving files from Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Bugfix for free disk space handling. The amount of free disk space being displayed in Finder was not kept up-to-date in some situations.

Updates are free for all existing customers, so we urge everyone to update to the latest version.

Release Candidate: Tuxera NTFS for Mac 2010.12-RC

The latest release candidate of Tuxera NTFS for Mac is out.
The newest release candidate contains bugfixes and a some new features.

Highlights:

  • Automatic filename translation of characters that Windows Explorer considers illegal. File names and attribute names can now safely contain characters such as ':' and '\' as they are translated to the private Unicode range according to the scheme used in Services for Mac. (This proved to be an immediate problem as some Mac OS X component has started to set attributes like "com.apple.metadata:kMDItemWhereFroms" which resulted in the files being inaccessible in Windows Explorer.)
  • Improved performance with multiple filesystems under the 64-bit Snow Leopard kernel.
  • Bugfix: Free space updates was not picked up by Finder at all times (Snow Leopard).
  • More efficient aligned I/O, now built into the caching layer. This should improve performance in some situations.
  • Bugfix for resource fork handling. This bug resulted in problems with some applications, e.g. Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Please send an email to our dedicated support email address describing any issues that you might have. Thank you.
